Smoke Disappears

Beady-eyed pupils the shade of new coal

In search of heat guidance warmth and play

Pure and unsullied like a baby’s soul

with the strike of a match turns night to day

I was taught that fire grows strong from one flame

how it licks, dances how the colors change

How shadows don’t cast on the space that it claims

Those are the constants we can’t rearrange

Strong winds bring power with gusts of hot glory

And the same mighty air snuffs out embers

The start is the end, the retold story

Supernovas die and who remembers?

Some carry the torch the soot and the smears

I hold the tea candle s m o k e d i s a p p e a r s.
